The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not be taking part in the Ablekuma North constituency rerun of the parliamentary election.
The party's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong was emphatic that “We will not be part of any rerun in Ablekuma North”.
He told the press that the decision by the electoral body is ‘unjust’ - maintaining the reason the NPP will not take part in the upcoming election.
According to him, the NPP had in the past maintained all necessary procedures along with EC officials, and had duly verified and signed the results at the polling stations involved in the December 7, 2024 election.
Justin Kodua, however, called on the Electoral Commission to declare their candidate Akua Afriyie as Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North to avert any unforeseen situation.
He said “Tensions are high” but the EC has yet to respond to their demands.
The EC had earlier announced a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North, citing irregularities in the collation process—specifically, the absence of validation by some Presiding Officers on scanned results.
